[Japan] Wonderful set of 5 books in fine condition containing numerous illustrations of the famous Nikko region of Japan. Volume 4 contains some colour woodblock prints of flora as issued. The illustrations were by Watanabe Kazan and others, the set was edited by Ueda Moshin and the preface is dated 1833. Volume 5 contains interesting illustrations of large candlestick holders from the Netherlands, Korea, and the Ryukyu Kingdom (present day Okinawa), that were presumably gifted to one of the temples in Nikko. Nikko Sanshi basically translates to 'A Record of the Nikko Mountains'. This is the first edition of 1837.

Volume 1 - 52 leaves, Volume 2 - 41 leaves, Volume 3 - 51 leaves, Volume 4 - 55 leaves, Volume 5 - 49 leaves. Each 25.7 x 17.7cm.

 

All volumes in are very good to fine condition. Volume 1 has some minor wear to covers. Internally fine. In modern, custom made folding case. b36121765
