CDV of Nagasaki Bugyo Hattori Tsunezumi probably taken by Ueno Hikoma
[Japan] Important photo of Hattori Tsunezumi (1815-1879) who was bugyo of Nagasaki from 1863 to 1866. The title can be loosely translated as 'commissioner' or 'overseer' or even 'governor' and their role was to oversee commercial acitivities in the port and, in Hattori's case, help arrange protection for the foreigners living in Nagasaki as it was still somewhat dangerous there in the early to mid-1860s. Inscribed on rear in pencil 'Japan 1865'.
Probably Nagasaki. Attributed to Ueno Hikoma.
