Momiji - Woodblock printed book of Japanese maple leaves by Kubota Kinsen for the Ito Kimono Co. Design Dept.
[Japan] Scarce, lovely orihon with a myriad of woodblock printed maple leaves in all the colours and stages of their life cycle. Kubota Kinsen (1875-1954) was the second son of artist Kubota Beisen (1852-1906) and produced some very nice woodblock prints. As this book was edited by the Design Dept. of the Ito Kimono Clothing Co., it would seem that these momiji (Japanese maple) designs would have been for kimono.
Kyoto. Unsodo. 1911.
30 leaves. 26.4 x 19cm.
In good to very good condition. Covers a bit worn and paper covering chipped at edges. Faint stain inside rear cover. Book is complete but pagination is a little mixed towards the end of the book (leaves are numbered in this order: 1-24, 28-30, 25-27). Otherwise very good. b36121754
