Painting of the Six Great Poets (Rokkasen) on silk by Kano Baisho
[Japan] A very nice, hand painted illustration on patterned silk presumably depicting the six great poets known as the Rokkasen (Ōtomo no Kuronushi, Ono no Komachi, Ariwara no Narihira, Kisen Hōshi, Sōjō Henjō, and Fun'ya no Yasuhide). Little seems to known about Kano Baisho (1729-1808) but he was based in Kyoto and was the son of Kano Baishun (1864-1743).
Illustration measures approx. 26 x 27cm.
Mounted on paper and was probably a hanging scroll at some point.
