Distant view of Enoshima from Shichirigahama in Kamakura Superb woodblock printed triptych by Utagawa Sadatora

[Japan] A wonderful woodblock print showing seven ladies and five children on the shore at Shichirigahama. At first glance, this illustration appears to provide evidence of children body surfing in the waves (!) but it is more likely the three children in the water were diving for shellfish and other sea creatures while the ladies took a break and smoked pipes. The boy on the far left and one of the ladies have baskets to hold the shellfish. The island of Enoshima can be seen at centre and Mount Fuji in the background just as can be seen today.

[Edo]. Ezakiya Tatsuzō. c1839 (Tempō 10).

Each panel 38.3 x 26cm.

In good to very good condition. Some age wear and minor marks. Minor wear at edges and corners. Otherwise very good. Unbacked with nice bleedthrough. u36061642
