The Great Earthquake of Japan 1891 by John Milne and W.K. Burton
[Japan] Very good copy of the 1st edition of this important work that shows some of the damage of the so-called Nobi Earthquake that affected much of Gifu prefecture and Nagoya, killing over 7,000 people. It was one of the first earthquakes to have its aftermath photographed by professional photographers. Complete with the 29 superb photographic plates by Kazumasa Ogawa as called for. Top edge gilt. The first editions also seem to have the Tokyo book binder sticker of N. Yubi inside the front cover.
Yokohama. Lane, Crawford & Co., 1891.
68pp+1 map. 28.6 x 40cm.
In very good condition. Old label on upper spine and some abrasions inside front cover and on ffep. Minor wear to corners. Internally very good. b36051618
