Woodblock Print of American Artist in Tokyo by Utagawa Yoshimori
[Japan] Wonderful woodblock print by Utagawa Yoshimori (1830-1885) of an American man holding what looks to be an artist's palette. There is also a Japanese lacquered telescope as well as a large bowl of some type. The print is titled in Japanese, 'Tōto Meisho Shinobazu' ['Famous Places in the Capital - Shinobazu Pond']. There were very few Americans in Japan in February 1861 so it may be possible to narrow down who this American artist was.
