A Buddhist Catechism by Henry S. Olcott
[Japan] Scarce Japanese printing of Olcott's famous work on Buddhism with a preface written by Bunyiu Nanjio [Bunyu Nanjo]. Although the title page lists this as being the 'Fourteenth Thousand', according to the Japanese colophon, the book was published in Japan in 1887 and it appears that the title page was copied from the fourteenth thousand published in Ceylon in 1882. 'Compliments of Charles A. Foster, Yokohama, 29 Mch 1889', written inside front cover and small Kelly & Walsh Ltd. sticker at top left. Foster is presumably the Lieutenant C. A. Foster of the U.S.S. Omaha who is listed in the Japan Directory for 1889.
