Mysterious Plain Paper edition of Momotaro latest known plain paper issue
[Japan] Japanese Fairy Tale Series No. 1 Momotaro. What can only be described as a mutant, this appears to be a possible sample that Yosaku Nishinomiya (Hasegawa's son) might have given to someone who asked for an offcut or some leftover bits of books. The book is not complete (and probably never was) but it is the most recent plain paper work that we have seen from Hasegawa/Nishinomiya. Also, it opens from right to left (i.e. Japanese style) which is also a mystery. Interestingly, the final illustration is dated Taisho 3 (1914) along with the name Yokota (perhaps a printer or carver?).
Tokyo. Y[osaku] Nishinomiya (late T. Hasegawa). 1940.
5 leaves. 19.2 x 13.1cm.
In good condition with some age wear and creasing. b35121511
