Takahashi' (Vol. 1) along with 'Short Biographies of Emineni [sic] Japanese in Ancient and Modern Times each with a Characteristic Illustration' (Vol.2). Extraordinarily well-preserved pair of books with their original, woodblock printed paper sleeves. Volume 1 contains a total of ten superb, color woodblock prints by Ogata Gekkō (four), and two each by Arai Yoshimune, Toyohara Chikanobu, and Mizuno Toshikata. Volume 2 also has ten prints with five by Sensai (Kobayashi) Eitaku and five by Ogata Gekkō. Each biography is printed in Japanese, Chinese, and English.
