Welcome Folio Containing Map of Japan In very good condition
[Japan] Wonderful, large coloured folding map of Japan (and Taiwan) with insert maps of The World and Hokkaido (Yezo) showing railways and principal roads. Under the main map, there are separate maps of Tokyo and Kyoto as well. On the rear there are advertisements for banks, hotels, shipping companies, and various shops. There is an introduction to The Welcome Society in English and French and this is the second edition of which 10,000 copies were apparently printed. The Welcome Society targeted affluent visitors to Japan and enabled such tourists to make connections whilst in the country. Shibusawa Eiichi was one of the prominent founders and the Society's head office was in The Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. The folding cover art is superb and was by K. Akita.
