CDV of H. Maruta taken in London Given to Mr. G. Sumiya
[Japan] A very nice CDV of a young Japanese man named H. Maruta (or possibly Maruki), who was most likely studying in England at the time the photo was taken. He presented the photo to his friend, Mr. G. Sumiya and the photo is inscribed on the rear, 'To Mr. G. Sumiya from his friend H. Maruta'. We have been unable to find any references to either person. The rear of the card mentions awards won by the photo studio at world expos in 1862 and 1873 so it would appear this photo would date from not long after 1873.
