Large Format Photo around Fujiya Hotel, Hakone Scarce, previously unknown view
[Japan] Unusual view of what appears to be an area of the well-known Fujiya Hotel in Miyanoshita (Hakone) not often photographed. The larger building at the top would be the old Fujiya Hotel that was destroyed by fire in 1883. A Westerner dressed in a light suit and pith helmet is standing on top of the steps between two buildings. The Japanese man sitting to the left of the Japanese man in white kimono is wearing a happi (workman's jacket) with 'Miyanoshita' and 'Fujya' written on it in Japanese.
Photographer unknown (possibly Stillfried). c1880. 23.1 x 18cm.
