Scarce, Early Issue of The Hiogo News Saturday, August 24th 1872
[Japan] The Hiogo News was the earliest English newspaper published in Kobe (Hyogo) with the first issue coming out on April 23rd, 1868. It was published twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday. Along with numerous advertisements, there are also articles about the criminal trial against a Mr. Tryon, who was fined $5, for assaulting a Mr. Johnson and Mr. Walsh (proprietors of the Hiogo News). Also, a lengthy article on a British man named J. Noble who apparently died in pitiful conditions locked up in a small cage near the Customs house at Osaka.
