Large Format Photo of H.J.H. Tripp and George Hamilton on a hunting trip in Yokohama
[Japan] Probably unique photo of a group of four Westerners with seven dogs and the game birds they hunted and shot. The man standing on the left is H.J.H. Tripp (given names unknown) who came to Japan in the early 1870s and worked as a bill and bullion broker in Yokohama. In 1882 he seems to have already moved to Hong Kong. The man sitting on the ground at left is George Hamilton, who first came to Japan in 1870 and worked for Fraser & Co in Yokohama. He was an active member of the foreign community and left Japan in 1885. Titled, 'Yokohama Shooting party H.J.H. Tripp, G. Hamilton', on bottom of mount. The two men on the right are unidentified.
Photographer unknown. 27.4 x 21.4cm (on larger mount).
In good to very good condition. Some minor wear and spotting. Old, closed tear of 3cm at bottom centre has been neatly repaired with tape on rear. Another 3cm closed tear on photo at centre left that appears to have been there when the photo was mounted on the card. nb35050002
