Photos of John Batchelor and his wife, Louisa, with Ainu people Two medium format albumen photos
[Japan] Wonderful pair of photos with one showing the missionary John Batchelor (1855-1944) with four Ainu men and the other his wife, Louisa Andrews (c1845-1936) with seven Ainu women and girls. Batchelor was married in 1884 so we believe these photos were taken around 1895-1900. Both photos look to have been removed from an album and the one of John Batchelor is captioned on the rear in pencil, 'Rev. John Batchelor'. Both photos are sharp with good contrast.
