CDV of Nakamigawa Hikojiro Taken in London. Signed and inscribed.
[Japan] Scarce photo of a young Nakamigawa Hikojiro (1854-1901), nephew of Fukuzawa Yukichi, taken when he was studying in London. Nakamigawa was from Oita prefecture and became a leading businessman. He moved to Tokyo to study at Keio Gijuku, and then to London in 1874 for further study. He started the Jiji Shimpō newspaper with Fukuzawa and was later editor-in-chief. He went on to become the president of the Sanyo Railway Company and also was one of the founders of the Mitsui zaibatsu. Inscribed by Nakamigawa to Arthur Diosy (1856-1923), who would go on to establish the Japan Society of London in 1891.
