Pair of Photos of Higgins sisters in Yokohama Taken by Adolfo Farsari, Yokohama

[Japan] Very nice pair of studio portrait photos by Farsari of identified Western ladies in jinrikisha (rickshaws). The rickshawman has a Grand Hotel [Yokohama] hat on and Farsari's studio was next to the hotel. One photo has the following neatly written on the reverse: 'Mother in Japan (Sue De L.) Mrs. Sarah (Higgins) de Lorenzi In Japan 1907-'08). Born Oct. 11, 1852 Mishawaka, Indiana. Married May 5, 1883 at Mishawaka, Joseph de Lorenzi. Died Nov. 21st, 1929.' The other photo: 'Susie (Higgins) Beiger. (Mrs. Martin V. Beiger). In Japan 1907-'08. Born Aug. 4, 1856. Marr. Dec. 30, 1875 Martin V. Beiger. Died July 23, 1927'. Susie's husband, Martin Valentine Beiger made his fortune in the wool industry and, by 1900, was apparently Mishawaka's first millionaire.

Yokohama. Adolfo Farsari. c1908.

Each photo approx. 19 x 14cm and mounted on slightly larger mount.

Both in almost fine condition. Mounts slightly curved. Photo of Sarah with Farsari's studio stamp. Photo of Susie without stamp. p35021336b
