Great Kanto Earthquake Photo Album Containing 89 photos
[Japan] Unique collection of photos mostly relating to the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 presumably taken by the Western man or lady who appear in more than one of the photos. The destruction recorded is immense and the album includes 5 panorama photos as well. Interestingly, the album begins with some photos known to be taken around 1863 although these appear to be photos of the original photos. Perhaps the man or lady who appear in some of the earthquake images started the album with the much earlier images but the earthquake hit so the purpose of the album changed. One dated photo shows the damage as seen on 15 October, 1923 next to another photo taken from the same spot one year later on 15 October, 1924. The album consists of 5 large format images, 5 folding panorama photos, 51 medium format, and 28 small photos, making a total of 89 photos.
