The Fairy Foxes - A Chinese Legend Very scarce first edition published in Shanghai

The very elusive first edition of this Chinese story. Presumably translated by Mrs. Archibald Little (who is mentioned as the translator in the 3rd edition on crepe paper), even though she is not named in the book. The second edition, also scarce and on plain paper, had coloured covers and mentions Kelly & Walsh as well as Hasegawa Takejiro. This first edition only mentions Kelly & Walsh as it was printed in Shanghai.

Shanghai. Kelly & Walsh. 1890.

pp[2], 42, [2] (including 3 single-page illustrations). 17.8 x 12.7cm.

In good condition. Covers worn with some minor loss at corners. The first few leaves are separated at the leading edge. Otherwise good. nb34070010
