Cabinet Card Photo - Group of Chinese Men taken by Obata Ujinaga in Takasaki

[Japan] Cabinet card photos showing group of Chinese men who were presumably living in Takasaki (present day Gumma prefecture). There was apparently a prisoner-of-war camp in Takasaki, so there may be some connection to the Sino-Japanese War of 1895-96, though one man (3rd from right in second back row) is smiling so perhaps they were workers of some type. Very little is known about the photographer, U. Obata. One source says his given name was Ujinaga but the reading of the second character for his name is sometimes shown as being undecipherable.

Takasaki. Obata Uji[naga?]. ND (c1900).

14.4 x 9.2cm.

In good condition. Some age wear and minor loss of contrast. Mount worn and with some marks. nb34070004
