Arts and Artists Japanese Scarce, obscure art magazine

[Japan] A Monthly Magazine Devoted to the Study and Student of the Fine and Applied Arts of Japan. Volume I, Number II. Interesting publication that doesn't appear to have survived long. Articles on ukiyoe, Maruyama Okyo, the Making of a Sword, and Keramic [Ceramic] Art. Also a number of interesting advertisements of Japanese and American companies, mostly in San Francisco, where the magazine was published. The inside rear cover begins: 'A Word of Caution. We are sadly disappointed. We are forced to make a surprising announcement to the effect that we are forced to charge one dollar ($1.00) a copy for Vol. I No. I, of Arts and Artists Japanese. None of our fault, this....' Printed at the Twentieth Century Press in San Francisco.

San Francisco. Akitsu. November, 1902.

pp. [18] + 3 illustrated plates in black and white. 32 x 26cm.

In good to very good condition. Covers worn with creasing and short tears along foreedge. Minor black spotting on covers. Some browning from the 3 plates to facing pages. Otherwise very good.
