Transactions of The Asiatic Society of Japan Vol. VI - Part I Oct. 1877- Jan 1878
[Japan] The Asiatic Society of Japan was founded in 1872 and still exists today. The Transactions of the society contain the text of lectures given to members and are fascinating to read. Such early issues are scarce. This issue contains papers on the Introduction of Christianity in China, by J.H. Gubbins; An Analysis of Certain Articles of Japanese Food, by B.W. Dwars; The Introduction of Tobacco into Japan, by Ernest M. Satow (illustrated with 6 woodblock prints); The Water Supply of Tokyo, by R.W. Atkinson (with 1 folding chart); The Maiden of Unahi, by B.H. Chamberlain; The Castle of Yedo, by Thomas R.H. McClatchie; Kak'ke [beri beri], by William Anderson; Remarks on the Dojo, by Dr. H. Faulds. There are also notes from the meetings of the Society.
