Mijn Verblijf in Japan - My Sojourn in Japan by C.T. Van Assendelft de Coningh
[Japan] Very good example of this scarce book with the rarely seen, original covers. Van Assendelft de Coningh (1821-1890) first visited Japan in 1845 as an employee of the Dutch East India Company, but it wasn't until 1851 that he spent a few months ashore. In 1859, he again went to Japan and worked as a private merchant before returning to the Netherlands permanently in 1862. This particular copy was owned by Jeannette C. van der Corput, who wrote a translation into English of Henry Heusken's diary in 1964. She used this book for background information about Japan when Heusken lived there. Acquired from a descendant of Jeannette C. van der Corput.
