[Japan] Carte de visite of German merchant, Franz Heinrich Schlueter [or Schluter], who first came to Japan in 1878. He worked for a few different companies and was working for Delacamp & Co. in Kobe when this photo was taken. The photo is inscribed in German on the rear, 'S[einem] l[ieben] "Teatotaller" (alias "Saufkumpan") in tiefster Ehrfurcht gewidmet Kobe im Jahre des Heils 1898.' ['To his dear “Teatotaller” (alias the guy with whom I am drinking a lot) with deep respect dedicated Kobe in the year of salvation 1898. Franz Heinrich'].
