Fables Choisies de la Fontaine Scarce crepe paper edition

[Japan] Choix de Fables de la Fontaine. Illustrées par un Groupe des Meilleurs Artists de Tokio. Sous la direction de P. Barboutau. 2 volumes complete. For some reason this edition on crepe paper is very hard to find (Florian on crepe paper being much more common). Pierre Barboutau was able to get some of Tokyo's best artists: Kajita Hanko, Kano Tomonobu, Okakura Shosui, Kawanabe Kyosui (Kyosai's daughter) and Eda Sadahiko for the impressive woodblock prints contained. This superb pair has been nicely protected in its own folder and case.

Tokyo. S. Magata. 1894.

Each 50pp. 19.8 x 15.1cm.

In about fine condition. Some very minor spots at the top of the front covers and top edges. Otherwise fine.
