Illustrated Biographies of Japanese Artists with photos and artists' signature stamps
[Japan] Scarce, interesting book in Japanese with biographies and images of 52 Japanese artists who were active in 1901, the year the book was published. A simple Internet search of many of the artists listed reveals no photograpic image of each artist. This book certainly fills that gap in knowledge. There is also a brief biography of each artist. Some of the names include, Hashimoto Gaho, Tomioka Eisen, Ogata Gekko, Watanabe Shotei, Kawabata Gyokusho, Kajita Hanko, Taki Katei, Kubota Beisen, Mizuno Toshikata, and Suzuki Kasson. Interestingly, there are also six female artists listed. Edited by Kanai Kakushi. The photographs were by Futami Asakuma (or Asama).
