The Enchanted Waterfall Very scarce plain paper edition

Japanese Fairy Tale Series No. 20 by Mrs. T.H. James.

Hasegawa published the first 18 fairy tales on plain paper between 1885 and 1888 and then made quite a quick transition to crepe paper editions. It would be three years before Hasegawa decided to produce No. 19 (1891) and No. 20 (1892). Probably because of this it seems very few plain paper editions of Nos. 19 and 20 were every published. Virtually unheard of in the market and some even wondered if they actually existed. Here is proof that No. 20 certainly does (we also recently found No.19 on plain paper too). No mention of Kobunsha in this book.

Tokyo. Hasegawa Takejiro. 1892.

20pp. 18 x 12.2cm.

In good to very good condition. The front cover has some wear, small stains, minor chipping and is separated at right edge. Internally very good. Inscribed by James to, 'Marjory with Mrs. James's love' in pencil at top of title page and number in pencil on top inside front cover.
