A fine example of the most comprehensive guide book to Japan published in the 19th century. This being the 'Revised and Augmented' fifth edition with all maps present and in almost unused condition (including the large folding map in the rear pocket). Sold by Kelly & Walsh in Japan.

ix[1],577[3], 54pp ads+ads at front and rear end papers; with 28 maps and plans (almost all folding, some in colour).

 

In very good to fine condition. A few minor marks on edges. One dried Japanese maple leaf inserted towards rear of book. Original owner's name, 'Lizzie Sayre Rodman -Yokohama April 1899' written at top of title page and 'Rodman' on large folding map in rear pocket. A few maps with tiny, closed tear at fold.
