Large format photo of Flower Seller Scarce with Azukisawa studio sign visible

Important, unmounted photo that helps identify the style of Azukisawa Ryoichi (sometimes Azusawa but the 1887 Japan Directory studio advertisement shown on page 218 of Terry Bennett's seminal work, 'Photography in Japan 1853-1912 (see image) clearly shows the name in English letters as 'Azukisawa'). He learned photography under Yokoyama Matsusaburo and then opened his own studio in Kyobashi, Tokyo, in 1884 (presumably shown in this photo). At the top left of the photo we can see the large characters for 'shashin' and then 'Azukisawa' below that. Numbered 84 in the negative.

25.7 x 19.9cm.

In very good condition with only minor wear and creasing.
