Commentary on the New Testament's Gospel of Luke by Marquis Lafayette Gordon
Scarce book that identifies M. L. Gordon as the author of the translation in a faint pencilled inscription on the first flyleaf that states, 'A Commentary on the Gospel of Luke in Japanese. Compliments of the author. M.L. Gordon. Kioto Dec 82'. Marquis Lafayette Gordon (1843-1900) was a missionary and was listed in the 1882 Chronicle & Directory of Japan, China etc. as living in Kyoto. He is not named as the author of this book elsewhere. Also on the flyleaf is a note in another hand saying the book was 'Received by mail January 16, '83. J.B. Laidley.' Text in Japanese and the title in Japanese is 'Shin Yaku Sei[Zen]sho Ruka Den Chokai'.
