Eight Japanese Crepe Paper Fairy Tales in original box Very scarce and obscure Osaka editions

Consisting of the following titles: The Story of Momotaro, The Story of the Battle between a Monky [sic] and a crab, The Story of a Wen Taker, The old tale of Bubuku [sic] Chagama, The Story of the kachi-kachi Mountain, The ord [sic] tale of Tongue cotted [sic] sparrow, The Story of Kintaro, The story of Hana Sakashijiji [sic]. Colour covers with the rest of the pages uncoloured as issued. Some illustrations. As the paper was not very good quality, few appear to have survived. These may have been an attempt by Osaka to try to come up with some crepe paper books to compete with Hasegawa of Tokyo. This group of 8 has been well protected by its original box which is titled, 'The Story of Nippon'. Single volumes rarely appear and, even if they do, are usually in poor condition due to the quality of paper used. To find eight together in such condition is exciting.

All written by Hayashi Hiroyuki.

Osaka. Matsumuro Yachizo. 1900.

All in very good condition as issued. One book has an old stain on the rear cover. The box is worn and splitting at the top.
