Extremely scarce photo of a Western lady and a Japanese man with top knot. Dated Oct 31, 1864 on rear along with 'taken 28 Oct'. The photo is mounted on very thin paper. Below the image are the words, 'A morning in Japan' and then what looks like, 'approach of visitor. Can see?'
Photographer unknown but possibly Ueno Hikoma (although the photo has an amateur feel to it).
Photo measures 8.5 x 5.4cm.
Wear to mount with corners chipped with minor loss. Also lower right corner of photo with minor loss as well as a few small chips at edges.
