The Flowers of Japan and the Art of Floral Arrangement by Josiah Conder

Seminal work by Conder. Published in a large format probably so the 14 coloured woodblock prints could fit the book in their full 'oban' size.

Tokyo. Hakubunsha. 1891 (title page dated 1892 but colophon and preface dated Jun 1891).

36 x 26.cm. xii,[2],136 + 40 plates of diagrams and 14 colour woodblock printed illustrations by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and Kawanabe Kyosui (daughter of Kawanabe Kyosai who Conder studied with).

In fine condition. Slight darkening to lower right of front cover along with a few small spots at lower left of front cover. A few tiny chips at edges. Otherwise in fine shape. Even with the original paper ties that protect the silk string bindings along with the original silk spine covering in fine condition too. A stunning book.
