Pair of Beautiful Handmade Fans Sold by Haibara Naojiro

Pair of stunning hand fans in their original woodblock printed paper folders. One with superb Rimpa-style art on one side and Mount Fuji on the rear. The other with a different Rimpa-style illustration on one side and a winter scene on the rear. Both with decorative lacquered wooden handles. Haibara still operates in Nihonbashi, Tokyo and was founded in 1806. Haibara Naojiro (1846-1910) was the 3rd generation owner of the store.

Haibara. Tokyo. c1890.

Each fan measures 36 x 24cm and each folder 37.3 x 25.3cm.

One looks to have never been used. The other has one small chip at edge and small area of wear with minor loss to art. Otherwise both are in excellent original condition.

A rare find.
