Kabuki Programme for The Prince of Wales' Japan Visit Original performances made especially for HRH

Programme of Plays Presented at the Imperial Theatre on the occasion of The City of Tokyo's Welcome to His Royal Highness; The Prince of Wales April 17, 1922.

Tokyo. N.P. 1922.  Printed by The Japan Magazine and Korin-sha

Very scarce publication made especially for the visit to Japan of HRH The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII). The program includes a ballet specially created for the Prince's visit, which included the coat of arms of the Royal Family of Great Britain in the set in hommage. What makes the program particularly rare is that the set was only performed once, in front of the Prince, and only those attending the performance would receive a copy. Covers in special 'chirimen' [crepe] paper.

26pp+1 fold-out woodblock print, 1 tipped in collotype image of kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro IX and numerous illustrations in text. 22.3 x 15.8cm.

Soft cover. English and Japanese text.

Covers worn but internally good. With rare original decorative obi (one part lacking) showing Union Jack, Japanese flag and Tokyo City's symbol. A few stray marks here and there but overall very good.
