Extremely rare and early photo taken in Japan.
According to Terry Bennett's authoritative book 'Photography in Japan 1853-1912', this photo is shown on p.49 and described as being 'the first commercial photograph taken in Japan to be published'.
On the rear it is labelled, 'View in Japan. 79. Japanese Ladies in full dress winter costume'.
17.5 x 8.5cm.
In very good condition except for old crease running down the middle.
