Ballades et Promenades par Kikou Yamata

[Japan] Very scarce work and the earliest known publication by Kikou Yamata (1897-1975), a French-born writer who was the daughter of diplomat Tadazumi Yamada and Marguerite Varon. Interestingly, her name in Japanese on the colophon is shown as Yamata [Yamada] Kikuko but we find no other reference to her actual name being Kikuko. Written when Kikou was just 22 years old, this book seems to be virtually unknown. One copy only in the National Diet Library. Contains 4 monochrome woodblock prints. Text in French.

Tokyo. Korinsha. 1919 (preface dated 1918). First and only edition.

pp. 53[1]+4 leaves of woodblock prints. 14.7 x 11.1cm.

In good condition. Wear and minor spotting to covers and woodblock prints. Lower string tie partially broken so the book is a bit fragile.  b35051412
